I've purchased a Hengst E17H D57 oil filter for my 2005 CDI. Does anyone know if this is a Fleece filter as recommended by Mercedes? The packaging makes no mention of fleece and to my untrained eye the thing looks like paper to me. Thanks for all replies.

For what it is worth, for model year 2005, the only year I researched, the gas powered cars use a fleece filter whereas the CDI uses a paper element.

A 2006 E320CDI comes with a decal under the hood that says use a fleece filter.

Is it possible for you to provide a part number for this elusive filter? I thought I had it figured out! What part number is listed in your "Factory Approved Service Products" book? Thanks in advance. I found a listing for a fleece filter for an E320 CDI 4MATIC, but that must be a European version with the V6. Any infor is appreciated.

I have a 2005 E320 CDI which I purchased new in April 2004. The part number for the oil filter which Tom Hansen--then at Caliber motors--sent me was A 613 180 00 09. It looks like a paper filter to me and comes with 3 "0" rings. There is also another number stamped on the filter itself, A 613 184 00 25. My car will be 2 years old in April 2006, but I only have 6500 miles on it so far. The service message display w/r/t oil change/service indicates service isn't due till 13,000 miles but that was not set properly at the vehicle prep center. It should remind me that this service is actually due l year after delivery--so I was really due for the oil change 9 months ago. Owners really need to do their own research and read the fine print in your maintenance booklet because the dealer service people are totally driven by the service message on the car's display. My dealer wants $85 to change the oil!

$85 sounds cheap for a dealer -- for my gas '03 E320, 9 qts of M1 + fleece filter totals around $70 when I do it myself. Are you running Mobil 1 or dino?
