I'm looking for a reliable shop for my '87 300SDL somewhere in Central Illinois. Surely someone knows of a reliable independent between Peoria, Springfield, Decatur, Champaign/Urbana, Pontiac, Bloomington?

Isn't there Isringhausen Motors in Springfield, IL? Probably not much help, sorry.

You are correct on Isringhausen- they are the Springfield MB dealer. I was hoping to find a reliable independent-- Sud's MB dealership is in Peoria and Bloomington, but they have one guy who remembers working on '80's diesels... Isringhausen's is very busy maintaining the new more expensive vehicles-- I've gotten maintenance quotes there and they always seem to be the highest. Thanks for the help tho.. :o

Hi there:
I have a 93 300D (diesel) and am looking for a shop near Antioch/Gurnee, IL or Kenosha/Bristol/Racine, WI. Any help would be appreciated.

Try European American motors on the lincoln avenue just south of Addison. The guy who owns it, Rudy, is very fair and I have never had to take the car back for something that they had already fixed. They are especially good with diesels.

Gunner,
Try Kauth and Mayeur in Peoria. I have my work done on my 86 300SDL there and they are excellent, particularly if you have an older car. They are not inexpensive, but worth it.

For those in the Springfield area Isringhausen and another MB owner in my area recommended Roberts Automotive 217-753-1977. He is located at
1900 S. 6th st.
Springfield, Il.
Between Ash & Laurel.
I have not been to him yet. I intend to give him a try for any future repairs that I can't or won't do myself.
Been to Rainbow Automotive in Decatur Il. Not real pleased with the work.

Since the time of my post, I too have been told to go to Roberts Automotive in Springfield. I have not as of yet, but it is at least another positive recommendation... Thanks to everyone that has replied to my original posed question!:D

I used to go to these fellers in the late 70's and they were great. They were the first to tell me that you must DRIVE your diesels...keep your foot in it....drive it like you stole it. You can't go wrong with these guys.

If anybody needs service in cook (crook) county illinois, in palos hills there is a shop called european auto werks, they do foreign and domestic but specialize in europeans. I had my benz serviced here and they were great to work with, the parts were below cost of the dealer, they had them there in and hour or so, and the labor rate is not too high. they do good work I definitely recommend them
