Hello all,

Anyone have plans to roll with the route 66 tour in September for the St. Louis area portion? I hope to. Chicago to home most likely. Incidentally my club's first W123 show will be the weekend prior, and I'd like to invite W123 enthusiast/owner/driving folks to visit with me while here. The STL part should be pretty cool, with the Kemp Mercedes Museum and Ted Drew's frozen custard as some of the features. I can't compete with such good ice cream perhaps but the offer is on the table!

I look forward to meeting some of you folks at this, likey to be my first national MBCA event.

Regards,

PS- You know how road trippers will pre-research mechanics along their route in case of trouble? Well you W123 guys can keep me in mind, offering such a faculty is amongst my grand W123-support vision- so you have a friend in this town, so you know... :)

Huh?

Huh?

Huh?

Huh?

Huh?

Huh?

Ya Goin'?

Are ya?

I'm gonna.

At least I think I 'm gonna.

Pretty sure.

I want to.

I expect to,

...you know,

for part of it anyway.

Yeah I'm gonna go.

Boy I hope I can go.

Who else is goin'?

You goin'?

Maybe I'll meet you.

Maybe I won't.

Maybe I'll see you, and and and maybe I'll not...

...like know who you are or that you are MBCA and that's why you are there and I suspect it's possible but for all I know you're just some guy or gal in a nice Merecedes who has no clue such a monumentously historical MBCA occasion was happening all around you because you're a poor hapless schmuck who though great ironic misfourtune has not had occasion to hear of this club and it's keen activities?

Maybe?

It's possible.

That could be you.

Unless you're reading this.

Which you must be,
so you've heard of MBCA.

That means it's not too late.

Unless you're reading this in October.

Then the Route 66 road tour is just a another page in the illustrious MBCA history.

And you missed it.

And it's YOUR fault.

Cos ya didn't show up when ya had the chance...

You can't say "I was there, and look here's a photo of us and the MB we had at the time/took to it"

That's right! You will forever be condemed to a feeble lifetime with no personal memory experience of

THE MBCA'S 50TH Anniversary EVENT!!

Imagine what your children, and your children's children and thier children will think! Could YOU live with that? Be honest.

That's priceless you know.

A heightend fleeting moment in time, of a place, only recorded by memory.

Oh, well and I suppose various 21st century recording devices- but it's not the same man! It's not the same!

So do what you wanna.

You know you wanna.

It's the 50th anniversary event, man! If THIS doesn't get you out to experience a national MBCA event, what the heck does it take?!?

I mean, all they had to do for me was route it through my town...

Now if I don't go, I will cement my hypocracy...

Great.

Now I gotta go.

Why don't you come too?

Come on.

Before October.

You've been info-warned.

I won't say any more about it.

I'll drop the dicussion.

Unless you don't want to.

I can keep going.

I could be reasoned with.

Perhaps.

What should I drive? What should I wear? What tools should I bring? How much Dr. Pepper will I need? Will 5 spares be enough for me and fellow W123er's and others with the same size and offeset?

I'll need a new jack, a couple extra batteries...

Ooo, and........... wait I'd better make a list

Uh, I gotta go-

maybe I'll get the chance to meet you and/or be avoided by you

either way

"I don't thinks I shall ever sees,
nicer sights than trains of MBs"
-me, circa just now

PS, you are all invited to the 50th anniversary party of Club 123D, July 15, 2052 (it's a Saturday) my place, come hungry and BYOB. No hurry to RSVP.

So in summary, attend this event, don't be a loser, be some history, and if at all possible, avoid that W123 wacko who lives just on the other side of the bridge into St. Louis, in the land they call Missouri.

Unless that eccentric oddball on a mission appeals to you...

...then you should look him up. I'm sure a couple of loonies like you will get along famously.

Good day to you all!

What's the name of the Inn, just in St. Louis (I'm trying to remember if it's just to the south of, is it I-55, and west of the old Cardinal stadium?) that features a "King Arthur" style to its decor?

My wife and I "honey-mooned" there back in '84 :D and I think that it would be a neat treat to take her there and then to take you up on your 4th anniversary party that week...are the Cardinals playing in town that week too? The wife's a die-hard Cardinals fan and I'm a suffering Brewers (& closet-Cubs fan, too!) (How's that for a mix?). And they said the marriage wouldn't last! Hah!

Remember, it's "her car" and all I get to do is: Gas it, oil it, wash & wax it, chase down any "squeaks" and rattles...almost like the marriage...OOPS! I wasn't suppose to say that, right! Dang! Alpo and bisquits for the game for me this weekend!

Later!

Are you thinking of Henry the 8th?

If so, they tore it down for the airport. :(

Don't know about the Cardinal games, but this is the first year of the new Busch. :) :(

I'd like to scope out your car, I have yet to stand next to an open bonnet which covers a petrol burner, if you can imagine that!

Sounds like you need a nice turbo diesel to attach a "his" license frame to!

I hope you didn't waste to much time reading my second post, I was a little tired and loopy.

What I remember about the nearby neighborhood was: there seemed to be a frontage road that merged w/the E/W-bound Hwy, and if I'm not mistaken, the Inn seemed to be on an "island" in that neighborhood-like it was the only thing on the block. I don't recall an airport (???) in the area so I'm just curious about how an airport could be that close to, what I thought was, a 'downtown' area...is that a 'regional' airport and not the big unit, where Boeing, etc., are located? I guess I'll have to fire-up the DeLorme program and scan the map to see what the h**k I'm remembering.

How close is the new Busch from the old Busch? Is it E/W/N (I don't think it could have moved to the south. Am I wrong?). And any idea what tickets are suppose to go for? (General range - I'm ALWAYS on a budget!) Speaking of budgets...

I'm still doing "payments" on this MB - It's going to be a little while before I'm ready for that diesel...but if your interested, the first thing everybody asks me is, "Is it a diesel?" And when I tell them it's not, they go from an anticipitory (sp?) grin to an "Oh...it's just a gasoline unit..." type of look. The only thing that keeps the conversation going after that is a quick note of comparing gas-vs.-diesel pricing and the fact that it's a '77 and still is in great shape. Then, like a magnet, they'll wander over to her and just stare at her like, "Boy, if I just had the money......" I know that feeling - now it feels great giving that feeling to others!!! There's nothing like owning a "star" to spread the hope to others for their chance at one. (I know they'd kill me if they knew what I paid to "steal" this one!!)

As for the L-O-O-O-N-G stretchy post - I was waiting for the "punch-line" that usually follows stretchy-posts like that. The 'ole right-pinky must have fallen asleep on the return key and couldn't get back up~ :D

Well, it was advertised as a delirious rambling... and did the most to crack me up as I wrote it. Like I said, I was loopy-tired. If you read it with Foamy Squirrell's voice in your head, you'd find it funnier. I'm sort of weird.

The new Busch IS to the south, the old Busch took up part of the new Busch's out field! Yes, they illogically crammed it in north of 40, which appears to be about 10 feet away. I know one day on the news there will be a story about some guy who tried to jump from the elevaed highway into the stadium window.

Heck, 2 people have jumped into the Missouri River thinking they could get to the other side of the highway

No clue on ticket pricing, better check a website.

How about the Cheshire Inn? Could that be it? It's still there. Henry was at about I 70 and hwy 67, (Lindbergh)

RE: W123, I think generally the diesels are legendary but the gassers are just and odd expensive MB to keep up. I expect 95% of W123's in US are diesel.

But I'd be proud to have that example, it's almost exotic these days over here.

PS - Budweiser/Cardinals, Miller/Brewers with the famous Cubs/Cards rivalry, you sure are getting a lot of baseball contention for your money!

THAT'S IT!!! :D :D Thanks! :D For the life of me, I couldn't remember what the name of that place was...Cheshire Inn! I'll check their WS (I'm sure they have one...)

They way people ask me about "...diesel?" my guess would have been that the gassers were more common.

I checked out your 'fact' sheets on models # and counts and it looked to me (if I was reading them correctly) that there were more gassers than diesels. Could it be that the gassers just 'gave out' (more likely, driven into the ground by careless/inexperienced owners) (but at $31K list? )?

Well, anyways, I'll check the Web for Busch-pricing and the CHESHIRE INN's (if I keep saying it, than I'll have that committed to what's left of my gray matter along w/the anniversary date!) exact location...this particular trip just might be what the Doctor ordered! Who knows, I may be down there during the first few weeks of the season opener - our anniversary is .... wait now, I'll remember ... Oh, yah, the 14th of April - see, I aren't dumb as I are...huh? What was I banging out here - - - O-O-O-O-O-O-O-OH, shiney things...

Of ALL W123's, about 55% were diesel! Of ther era, '77 ish though '83 ish, about 70% of all US MB sales were diesel, with only ONE diesel model that wasn't a W123, that means the rest were! They only sold your model in the US from 1977-1981, no gasoline W123's were offered from 1982-on.

I personally think if you had a MB W123 diesel, and gave it the SAME level of care or neglect as a gasoline motor, the diesel lasts about twice as long.

So you're going to come here in April, but not/what about the Route 66 tour in September? The Cheshire is onl about 25 miles from me, so I hope you'll stop by for a visit anyway.

Cheers!

Vince:

I've first got to get the time from work...I've got over 300 hrs. vacation coming - anyways, I'm not even coming close to "writing off" the "66" trip. I just thought that I should get the wife out of the house and down St. Louis way before summer hits. She's originally from Decatur, IL., and still has family in Decatur and Bloomington. I'm just setting myself up for possible trips this coming year.

I see. If before summer is a prerequisite, why don't you plan on coming to the Spring Road tour in May? It's our 3rd annual W123-only driving event, and this year we are expecting attendees from Minnesota, Illionois and Ohio. I hope Oklahoma and Iowa also, but...

Anyways, it would be cool to add Wisconsin!

Any sunday in May better than another? I want to set the date for maximun attendance. Details are on my webiste, as they are updated. :)

I'll bookmark your WS on my "favorites" and let you know what's up...

Thanks for update and invite.
