I am experiencing pre-detonation pinging regrdless of engine temperature. At higher altitutude it seems to be a little more severe. I have used injector cleaner but it only aided the problem for that tank of fuel. Is it time for new injectors?
Thanks.

It is a diesel, no distributor. What did you use for cleaner? If Diesel purge, did you use it the way instructed in the jar? Was the fluid clean by the end? Two cans? Could be garbage fuel and coked up injectors. I advise Italian Tune ups to see if you can dislodge carbon adn blow the snot and smoke out. Then again, it may not kill you to have the injectors tweaked

I used Red Line diesel fuel injector cleaner which was recommended by many diesel owners.
Maybe it is time to order injectors and replace them. The Ol'Gal would not mind new ones and it won't hurt a thing. Are there any special tricks to replacing the injectors?

check injuction pump timing first.
second, i think you may have some water in your diesel. this is not uncommon, and is the number one cause of pinging.
a failed injector will cause frequent missing.
third...
distributor?
where did THAT come from. I hope that perosn doesnt own a diesel. they will be looking for it for the enxt 10 years (:

Well, I tried some fuel drying additive but no change. The product I purchased was IPA based and I am not convinced that is a proper chemistry for drying out fuel. What is entailed to have the injector pump timing adjusted.
I am from Washington State and am in Manassas, VA working for the next few months. I have a great shop in Portland, OR but while here can anyone recommend a good shop to have this potential work done?

IPA is a fine drier for diesel fuel. Need enough for a 20 gal tank and just run the thing dry to get all the water that is in suspension burnt. Use the RED heet bottle not the yellow. I use it for long highway drives so that I have fresh enough fuel and all the water is dispersed throughout so it can carry the water better than having a gallon of water in five gallons of fuel. Highway miles gets and keeps the motor hot enough to burn all the water.
There are a bunch of shops in the DC area, but not sure if there are any in Manassas. Ask Marshall Booth on the diesel forum, he can point you toward all sorts of good shops around there.
