1984 300tdt cruise control question

When I purchased my wagon this past summer ther stem of
the c/c was broken off. Can I take out the wiring unit and solder
it back? Can I run the car without the multi pronged unit attached the
the car?

Your description sounds a bit vague. If you're talking about the lever of the switch, it is easily removed. I doubt soldering it would last past the first use. Look around a wrecking yard or ebay for another switch, and replace it.
To remove it, take off the rubber trim boot, and loosen the retaining screws.
Then remove the lower footwell panel, and disconnect the quick plug that leads to the multi switch, and feed the bundle up through the steering column.
