Hey all just wondering about buying some new rims for my benz, I have a 1983 240D and just wanted to know what the biggest size could I put on the vehicle, info such as the bolt pattern, offset, rim width, and anything I need to know before buying a set. What other rims from other MB classes would fit on this car  I don't know if I want to put 15" on this car or go with a 16" or 17" rim, to me and it's all about taste I would like to put 17" on it but hey that's just me any help is appreciated thanx :D

I'd save this darling little slowpoke car the embarassment and stay with something stock, especially size.
If you now have steel wheels, try the bundt cake alloys--lots available on eBay.

The 15" MB 15 hole rims look nice on the W123s, the ones found on the 86-91 W126 and 86-89 W107 will bolt right up. The 16" MB 8 hole rims look nice as well, though the offset on the original ones found on the W140s and W124s and W129s are different than the offset on your W123. You can find the 8 holes in the correct offset for the W123 at http://www.tirerack.com.

I checked out the site above and the neat thing is that they actually show a picture of a blue 123. If you choose a rim type, it will paste the rim on the car. Every rim looked stupid on my car. It looked like a gang-banger car here in L.A.
I think the chromed Bundt rims would look the best.
I agree with you, Patrick.

The 123 isnt the type of car to put 17" chromes, spinners, AMG, etc. It will just make some people laugh. It is a old classic car and should be looked as such. If you want to look like a baller, then get an escalade :)

You don't say... that's handy info and would make sense
Standard Fuchs alloy bolts? I'd guess Benzing has caps with the short lugs
I knew the W124 and 201 wheels wouldn't work
It's hard enough to find a fittable wheel for the W123, trying to find an alternative to original that is asthectically pleasing on top of that complicates things.
I don't think there is NO hope, but largly agree with the sentiments expressed above. I thought my Mono I wheels looked great, and saw some 17's on a wagon that worked well, sort of a euro-sport-wagon look as they are a flat silver (not chrome)
I've seen 19's and 20's on a W123 in photos, but agree they look silly on this car. (how about some 13" wires on 2' spacers? :p )
I LIKE the "bundt" alloys, and if in good appearence work great with the wonderful 70's German car design asthectiics.
Chromed "bundts" however do not look as good and are not a good idea for molecular reasons, it's kind of like buying your favorite DVD to use as a drink coaster.
Newer MB stock wheels such as the 15 holes wouldn't look right to me, but there are far bigger "crimes"

Yup, 15" bundt wheels from a 126 will fit a 123. Indeed, on 'vehicles with higher load limit' 15" was standard from the factory.

HMMMM interesting replies and believe me I am not trying to be a baller  I just want my car to look unique and different and I do have the alum 14" bundt wheels, I would like to get 15" or maybe get these re-finnished. I checked out the tirerack site and it's wicked thanx H-town, I have a couple months to decide there is 4 feet of snow on the ground so to all a thank you ;)

I dont think there is a "official" dictionary definition, but its basically a guy with money and shows it in a "new money" way. Instead of just driving an expensive car, it has to be tinted, chromed, spinner rims, etc. Basically look at rappers and sports stars.
Its cool and all, but there are some rules to being a baller, 1) if you not one, dont try to be one. You attract the wrong type of women and also you can embaress yourself. For example, when you see people flashing fake louis vuitton purses, fake rolexes, fake diamonds in there mouth (the gold, diamonds, and platinium in your mouth is called a GRILL). Do an internet search for Paul Wall, Lil Flip, etc.
Anyway, another rule I guess is dont take a classic car thats not ment for that stuff. I saw a 123 on ebay not along ago with LCD sunvisors, dvd player, chrome spinner wheels and a bunch of other stuff. It just doesnt really look right.
At the end of the day, its your car though, but it seems silly to put all that stuff in a 123, maybe in a newer S500/S600 it would look cool. On a 190E/201 it would not be cool.

That's kind of funny, I was literally writing a reply as if it were cut and pasted right out of Websters, with phonetic spellings, part of speech and synonyms along with the definition, but I bailed on it because I thought an oversensitive type might like to twist my fun and playful words into some racist perception.

so we all agree that the addition of flashy components to 123s results in a loss of CHARACTER, which is to be avoided
unlike fast drug money, CHARACTER is cultivated over a long period of time and must be cherished and never compromised

 I saw a gorgeous black Bently gliding down the street in Gulfport, Mississippi a few months ago. When I got alongside I could see he had it decked out with those flashy 'spinney' wheels. How can one actually believe that they can 'improve' something like a Bentley, Rolls, or Mercedes? Those 'improvements' do nothing but cheapen some very fine cars.
Sorry, we're not politically correct down here.

That is exactly why the cheesy gold trunk badges are now bolted to my bodymans tool box as trophies for a job well done. New chrome trunk badges are going to be put on my car.
Joel,
If you're talking about the car model number badges, why have any on the trunk?
