OK, I am sure I am not the only one with this problem. I need to reline the front brake shoes on my 61 220Sb. I have good shoes, but is a $200 core charge normal? I would rather not take the car off the road to ship the existing shoes, but I am unwilling to let someone hold that much for a core charge unless I really have too. So what has everyone else done, suck it up or is there another solution I am missing?

Are the brakes going to be relined in your area? If so it should be a quick turn around. Try to find a local shop to reline them and you can avoid the core charge and will still have you original parts. I had this done for my back brakes when I was in NY years ago. Here is my 61.

I think the proper way to get the brakes relined is to have the shoes arced to match the drums, so the shop would need to have both the shoes and the drums. Not many shops do this anymore. We've got a couple of good sources the ponton crowd uses if you're interested.

awesome, I will check out the ponton area of the forum and see if I can find a more local source. I am not worried too much about matching the arc as these are the shoes that have been on this car for a number of years. It may not be the fully correct way to do it, but for now it will do.

Thanks,
Chris
