First of all, it is amazing how much they got off of the entire engine compartment!
I am seeing parts I never saw before. It had an easy 22 years worth of gunk.
However when I accellerate aggressively it sputters. I thought these diesels don't have distributers, so what is the water affecting to make it run rough under a load? I figure it will dry out and run just fine by tomorrow, but now I'm wondering if the process of steam cleaning hurts anything else such as old rubber pieces or parts? It sure does look neat though! :D

A little fuel line/system seepage or air induction condesation? Guess you'll see...

Hi Anne;
Isn't clean neat?
Why not drive him for a while and see what happens?
It may correct his self.

You shouldn't have a problem. I liken the symptoms to what happens after one washes their car: the breaks squeal for a few moments and then go back to normal. You should find the same is true with your sputtering.
I wouldn't suggest you continue to steam clean your engine, though. Get some Pledge, rubber cleaner, and polish and detail the engine once a month.
Justin,
Detail the engine once a month? Surely you jest!

Perhaps. My definition of detailing the engine might be a little different form what others think, though. I simply clean all surfaces that I can see. It's not a concours detailing, but rather a detailing job a 22 year old car deserves.
I wish I were jesting, for if I were, I'd have even more time to enjoy her!

I drove it today without any sputtering..phew! I still wonder of that kind of heat with eat away the old rubber parts? Probably not....
