Has anyone had the chance to compare the ride between Bilstein comfort and Bilstein Heavy duty shocks on a 123. I'm replacing my rear shocks and want a very smooth ride but have a chance to buy a pair of HD Bilsteins for almost half price.
Thanks for the input.

Not yet, but new Comforts will still out perform any other shock I know of, and the HD can be regarded as too hard by some- it's preference largly. If you are not the high performance tire/G-force on back roads type, stick with comforts- you'll still like the improvement, especially if your car has a "junk" shock on it.
I think these are a few "junk" shocks (even out of the box)

KYB (stands for "Keep Your Biltsteins")
maybe Boge - they were one of the original equipment shocks for MB and these cars, but that may be because I've not experienced brand new or decent ones yet. Those are not as commonly availble as Biltstiens either, so I don't expect to find otherwise soon.

Bonjour Pierre le Mechanic! So...you definately recommend Bilstein and they offer a HD version for those of us pushing the cornering capabilities. What about my old favorite: Koni? I will be replacing mine this year, so I appreciate any recommendations and I will probably follow those recommendations. Where can one obtain larger sway bars, slightly stiffer springs??? Or am I foolish to consider those options? I understand the period V8 Benz's had 14 X 6.5 inch waffle rims, should I consider that for my P205 X 14 Michelins mounted on 14 X 6 inch? Thanks
