I've heard tell of a source for rebuilt climate control units. Does anyone know of one?

What exactly is wrong with your climate control unit? Is it totally inoperative, temperature control not holding? The fan shuts off sometimes? In some instances, a resoldering can take care of problems. Why spend hundreds when you may be able to fix it for MUCH less? It's already broken, you can't break it any more, right?

Here's the link to the procedure.

Joe,

I think that you can get credit for the core if you buy a rebuilt, UNLESS you've already attempted to 'fix' the core, then you don't get credit. That's the reason why one needs to carefully judge whether or not to attempt a DIY repair.

My question is, how can they tell if you've already attempted a re-solder? I would think that if you were carefull, and used correct materials to strip off the varnish and then re-applied the varnish, it would be nearly impossible to tell.

Anyone have an idea?

When I bought the car, the climate control system worked some of the time. Just before the holidays it started working great. The system would wait untill the car warmed up to turn on the fan, the fan speed would regulate and the car was comfortable.

In the last 2 weeks the system has operated either on full fan, high heat or off. I was thinking maybe the modulator valve was stuck and needed a rebuild, but that doesn't explain the fan speed on high issue.

It doesn't seem to be broken, broken: Just stuck.

Doing a search on the web for George Murphy has turned up alot of things that have nothing to do with climate controls, can someone send me the link or address please?
