control the up and down could be corroded. There is a fix for my 99 450SLC. I am not familar with the 500. On my 450SLC you take the switch out of the console, both windows front and rear on the drive side are on one switch and the same for the passent side. Then take the chrome ring off and the bottom will come off. On my car you have to he very careful as the buttom are held by the chrome and will fly all over the place along with the inner of the switch if you don't hold them when you are take off the chrome surround. Then it is a just a matter of cleaning the contact inside. On the 450SLC. I used a sanding pen and some emery paper, replaced everthing and they worked. They worked before, but I was trying to get them to move faster, after the cleaning of the contacts, they moved at the same slow up and down speed. I did buy a new switch for the drivers side to see if that would be any better, Nope, they are still slow. My understanding of my 450SLC is the window are electric and there is no vacuum lines. I looke thru the factory service manual, but they have nothing on the switches or the motor. Everything else about the doors is there and the vacumm system for the locks is pages long. And it also covers crank windows but not electric??? I picked this info up from a SL sight I found during a Google search. The person who wrote it owned a 350SL. I hope this at least leads you in the right direction. One other thing. Dearlers are usually good at printing diagrams of the systems. I had asked for the lock diagram for my car and the printed up without hesitation. You might want to try and get a diagram of the switch and how it is mounted. You won't find, from Mercedes any direction on how to fix or trouble shoot. As we all know they just replace most parts. If you can get a wiring diagram of the system, before you take the switches apart if can can the negative pole and the positive pole or pole (2 for my back windows) you can jump them to see if the switches are operating. If not clean the contacts or buy new switches, One switch for my car on an online site was $83.00 and change for OEM.
