Hello all fellow MBCA members and Fintail fans-
I am new to this forum. I tried to subscribe when the Enthusiasts' Groups first opened, but my PC wouldn't let me in! Anyway, glad to finally be in with a fine group of Fintail sympathizers. These are EASILY my favorite Mercedes 4-door generation; I'm sure you all appreciate the stylish quirkiness of this generation of sedans. I love ALL Mercedes, but the fintails make so many of them just seem so conservative. The fintail has been "Doing it" for me since I was a kid, playing with a battered GAMA remote-control 220S toy in my cousin's basement.
My mother's first Mercedes was a 1965 220Sb; Graphite grey, red leather, automatic. My parents sold it in 1971 to make way for a 1967 250S. I have photos of all her Mercedes through the years, as well as all the build-cards for her vehicles, and my own. Thanks, MB-Classic!
I own a 1961 220SEb Fintail sedan, an original, unrestored "Survivor". She still wears her original, Sindelfingen-sprayed coat of DB213H "Mother-of-Pearl Green" paint (Special Order), and has the original 653 Black leather interior in very fine condition. The car is US-market, with no sunroof, and a 4-speed column-shift. 90,xxx original miles, with a great, vintage patina, interesting provenance, lots of original manuals and memorabilia, window sticker, tool roll, original wide-white Firestone Phoenix spare, etc. European headlamps were added in 2004...they are absolutely essential, and the 1960-61 models look exactly like the Euro-spec cars when fitted. Delicious!
The car was purchased alongside "Route 66" in Southern Illinois, and was briefly loaned to Columbia Pictures for use as a movie prop in the 2001 film "ALI" during filming in Chicago.
Coincidentally, MB-CLASSIC has confirmed that the car left the Sindelfingen assembly line on October 17, 1960. MY BIRTHDAY IS OCTOBER 17!! (spooky)
Please see the attached photos- hope to check in often! Regards- GRANT
