I have a friend that may be giving me a car that he acquired for free from an elderly gentleman. He knows that I am a MB freak and would take great car of the car. The owner is 80+ years old and can no longer drive in Germany.(Health issues)

I already have a 77 280CE and I am very familiar with the associated Cancer (rust) areas for the 123 series.

Could you please give me some insite for possible problem areas on the 114 body. I have not layed hands on the car yey, but I was told it only had light rust on the lower door edges. Can I look in the same areas as a 123 or are there other hidden areas?

This is a EURO spec 76 250 C and it is the original owner car, no wrecks, only a wrinkled rear valance (Roll pan). All original.

Thanks in advance,
Angelo 77 280CE

Hello Angelo,
Typical rust areas of the 114 chasis are: inner fender approns around the shock aborbers, front and rear ends of the rocker panels, front floor pans. top of the rocker panel behind frontwheel splash panel and aroundthe jack supports. On the body: look above the headlights, around the rear wheel arches, and the door bottoms. Advanced cases may show rust through on rear suspension and attachment points on the chasis. The front and rear bumper stiffiners also deteriorate from rust.

Good Luck,

Also check the cowl/firewall area where the water from the wipers and rain drain.

Thanks for the info. The car might be available around the middle of November.
