SL320 Special Edition

I own a 1998 SL320 Special Edition that I purchased here in Germany. I am considering whether or not to bring it back to the SU and convert it to US Specs. Does anyone know how many of these "Special Editions" were built and if there are any in the US.

Can't tell you how many of these cars are in the US. But it could be expensive to have it federalized. When I owned a Bimmer. A fellow in the BMW Club of America, brought over a euro spec BMW 6 series as I remember, He claimed it cost him over $10K to federalize it, including taxes, tariffs, but not including ocean shipping, which is the most dangerous form of shipping. You would have to put it in a container and hope it is loaded in the one of the holds and not on the deck. Also buy your own frieght insurance against loss and damage. As any ocean shipment is looked about as a shipping unit whether it is one box or a container load and the liability of the carrier is $500 per unit. (Warsaw Act of 1939, upheld in the Rotterdam Act, forget the year, sorry).

I know I was in this business both domestic and international for 42 years and taught it for 26 years on a graduate and post graduate level.

I have already checked out the conversion and have a company that will do everything including shipping from Germany at a reasonable price and it's guarenteed. The company is on the DOT list and it's in Florida, close to where I will be.

This car is unique in that it's a 1998 SL320 (MB only made the SL500s for the states in 1998). It has 6 cyl engine with Kompressor and a 5 speed automatic. As a Special Edition, it is Pearl Blach with a dark red interior and a Dark Red rag top. Neat car.
