Tim,

What year is it? That would help.

It is possible you blew the amp or maybe the amp's fuse? It's also possible the volume knob is bad - this is common. Try going to Radio Shack and buy some tuner cleaner. You will probably have to remove the radio to do this. You want to get some cleaner into the volume knob, which is just a potentiometer. If you are lucky, the contacts are contaminated and this will fix it.

No, I'm not going to email you this. That's the reason we have a Forum, so that others can learn from your problem.

I had the same problem with the original radio in my 99 C280. Just stopped working. Long story short, I took it to the dealer and $1000 plus dollars later I had a new radio. The service writer said there was a problem in the circuitry. As most of us know. Dealers very rarely trouble shoot anymore, just replace. I probably should have taken it to the audio shop. One thing they did check the fuses and the fiber optics to the CD player. Which did check out OK. That was the extent of the troubleshooting.

The new radio head has worked fine now for almost 3 years, but lately, and ramdonly I will get No CD Changer installed. I wiggle the fiber optic cables to the changer and it is OK. After I did this I decided to take out the changer and see what was connected to what. The two cables are connected to the changer with 2 push in connectors. That is all.

The reason I did this, another time when I was in for maintenance. I started talking to another customer waiting for his car also, He had the no changer problems. Turned out it was a fault on the radio and he spent a $1000 plus for a new head unit. Same car by the way as mine.
