I just bought it for insane money, and boy is it nice. When I first drove off in it, I thought there was something wrong with the seat! But it is stiff and not broken in at all, so now I know what these cars felt like from the factory when new!
Anyhow, I'm loving it, all original paint/panels, except for lower cladding and AMG body kit. Plus it has Centra 31 wheels.
I had to share!

Congratulations ! I know of a 1989 560SEC with around 14K miles on it that went for very close to $40K about 3 years ago. This was in the Bay Area, CA.

Congratulations, Bruce! Sounds like a fantastic find. I've got a question for you or Gerry, or any one else who wants to chime-in; I've just rebuilt the tranny in my 1988 560 SEC and at 70 mph the engine is runnning at approximately 2600rpm. That doesn't seem right to me. I'm thinking it should be about 500 rpm slower at 70 mph. Can you please confirm with your very low mileage car? Or can any one else please give me some guidance?
Cheers!
Sonny.

Gerry, I just remembered; I saw David Lee Roth selling his 1988 SEC Convertible on E-Bay last year. I remember it was black in and out, and he was selling it with an autographed pith-helmet he used in one of his videos. Don't know what it went for, but I'm still curious what the "panic button" on the dashboard did.
Cheers!

I remember seeing that car, vaguely. Would be interesting to see what it went for.
More than a few SECs were converted to cabrios. I'm not sure that this was the best thing to do to these cars structurally, though I would call them rather over-built compared to most cars. But you do get some cowl flex in the W124 cabrios, so I'm sure there would also be some in the 126s.
The 126 cab was a real "80s" thing...
Cheers,
Gerry
