See private message about actual part number and shipping costs. I have some interest. I have a 98 SL500 with about 3 bent grille strips and if the cost of the unit approaches the cost of fixing my grille I might be interested.

Is the part number 129 880 02 85 or 129 880 03 85, which is the Siver Star Version (which I don't know what that means)?

Does it include the center Star 129 888 02 86?

I don't know the cost of the grille assembly but the individual rails are about $60 more or less.

Considering the cost of perhaps 4 strips at $240, (plus 50 cents each for the 4 rivets) it does get a bit interesting, but then what would I do with the old grille?

I think that the 129 880 02 85 is the standard part. I believe you are referring to the star in the center of the grille which comes with the grille when bought as an assembly. That star and each of the horizontal elements can be purchased separately, and that's the tradeoff I have to make, whether it's worth the extra money to buy a whole grille or just get the 3-4 bent elements.

129 880 03 85 has some reference to a "Silver Star" car model and I have no understanding of what that means.

Does anyone know what that term relates to?

My question was poorly posed. I should have asked whether it is for the Silver Arrow Edition or not. I think that tells whether the grille is chrome or black. According to a parts list I have, the 02 85 part number is for the non-Silver-Arrow Edition.

I have no idea what that means, but have a concern that the 02 85 part number is black, not chrome.

I'm not sure I have sorted out the difference between the two grilles listed in my parts book, one is linked to "Silver Arrow Edition" and the other is not. There is some indication that Silver Arrow was a 2002 special and it may have had the chrome grille, 129 880 03 85 but I'm just not sure.

Apparently you are selling a 129 880 02 85 grille which is apparently black. The strange thing about the two versions is that the slats, which are listed in the parts book as individual items, don't differentiate between color. Very strange, and the dealers have no idea what I'm talking about.

I have a chrome grille, but would be pleased to change to black, which is apparently what you have available.
