300sd 1984

im looking at a 1984, 300SD. IT has 168000 miles on it, no rust and looks nice, and has records. I have a few questions about it :

1:how long do the trannys seem to hold up in these things? should i expect to put a new one in soon?

2:Is this a good year?

3:What should i look for in a car like this?

4:are these cheap to maintain? (I am able to do the maintenance myself)

5does 4200 seem like a fair price to you?

I'm looking at an 85 300sd with 169K miles for 7000.00. I've seen them on E-bay going for as much as $10,000.00 with slightly lower miles. My neighbor sold hers to her accountant 15 years ago and told me that he still has it. These are supposed to be excellent cars. I'll be looking forward to reading the answers to your questions as they are mine as well.
