Is this the Radiator Drain Valve in this pic?

There seem to be wet near the pulleys, near the water pump. Is this a water pump leak or its a normal discharge by the water pump due to cooling system prob (like a leaking Radiator/loss of pressure?)

Can I top up my coolant & drive to my mechanic?

Based on your questions, you probably need some help in finding the leak; it does not look like a valve, I can see green and moist up on the radiator fins.

Good photos!

If you decide to top up the coolant and drive it, some advice:

Watch the coolant temperature gauge - if it gets too hot (almost 120C) STOP and let it cool off.
Bring water with you, in case.
If it leaks fast, maybe you better not drive.

I bought the car to MB & other service repair shop. They all said the water pump & judging the white stain & wet near the pulleys.

They all cant see the Radiator Leak. I told the MB about the wet spots near both ends of the Radiator, where the Plastic Tanks joins the Metal Centre Core. He showed me a spare platic tank with its rubber seal. He said the rubber seal needs replacing @$300, but I know for this price on the www I can buy a new Radiator!

I wonder is this a normal leak from the Radiator perhaps condensation? Coz its very minor leak only.

Hi,

The mechanic have now replaced the Water Pump & new Radiator. Question is theRadiator look new from inside the engine bay but externally, where the 2 fans connected is still same. Is that the Air Conditioner/Heater Radiator?

Also mechanic spotted that the engine mount is broken. I know one mount already replace last Aug, coz when car put on reverse it vibrate tremondously, so only 1 mount replace is that the left or right mount. Now this mechanic say "Engine mounts broken". Is it that he observed one broken mount & concluded/assumed the "plural". Whats will occur if that one mount is not replaced?

Mercedes has used an aux fan for decades. Yes they are for cooling and usually go on around 40 degrees C or 100 degrees F. They serve a dual purpose to cool the condensor and the coolant. Today's cars use electric sensor to operate the fans. My 450SLC has the "old time" engine fan that comes on when you start the engine. As I said the Aux fan kicks in at the temps I mentioned.

As far as coolant leaks. Most water pumps have a leak hole. It is built into the pump so when they do start to leak you notice it right away. It is a small hole usually on the bottom of the pump. Radiators can look great on the outside, but inside they could be a mess. Do you or did you every change the coolant in your car? I have been told that Mercedes is especially sensitive to having coolant changes done on a regular basis. The procedure is very specific as well, opening the engine drain bolts is in bold print in a shop manual I have. Also, I would use only MB coolant. The previous owner of my 450 used Prestone. Mercedes cars don't like Prestone. They hate anything green in color.

Engine mounts, I have a leaking engine shock absorber on my 450. My mechanic said to replace the both of them. Reasons to replace both, as they are of the same age? If one is gone the other is sure to follow very soon after. The first mechanic should have replaced both mounts as a matter of practice, IMHO.

Thanks

When the coolant leak it was green in colour, even the Coolant Reservour was green colour. Noticing the leak on both ends of the Radiator, there were greenish residue, clearly the leak on the seal between the plastic tank & metal core.

THis clearly mean I can be very dissapointed with my previous MB Authorised service centre, who was also the one who replaced only 1 mount only!

The Motor Repair which replaced my Water Pump & Radiator is not authorised MB but specialised in MB service & parts. It had replaced coolant which is not green colour, I think it look slight brownish. Engine is still hot & I need to open coolant reservoiur tank for better view.

Is it safe bet to just change the 1 mount coz the other was replaced last Aug? Also I cant view the left side mount (view from drivers seat), is it exact opposite side of right mount? If I open the underside plastic base of engine & view from under, can I easily see the broken mounts or do I need a jack to lift car up?

Can this broken 1 mount cause damage to other parts of engine?
