Hi all,
Well, in my ongoing attempt to make my 86 300 SDL a good as I can, I'd like to get the ambient temp thing to work. It lights with the headlights, but, there are no numbers, lights on or off. I am wondering where to start looking for faults?
Any thoughts are appreciated.
thanks
Henry
If your talking about the LCD display just below the center of the instrument cluster, it's expensive (relatively) for the info you get from it. I believe most of the time the LCD display deteriorates.

Hi,
Yes, that is the display I'm talking about, the LCD on the bottom, middle of the dash.
Thanks,
Henry
If you have no numeric display (LCD display erroded) the module will have to be replaced. It's held in with two screws on the back of the instrument cluster. It's been a while since I checked, but I recall, it cost about $300.00. You might try to find one used. If you do have a numeric reading, on the display, try to input some test resistances. Disconnect the sensor behind the fuse box (See attached). I'm not to positive of the values, but it should be close enough. I can measure mine if needed.
Good luck,
Walt

Ok, thanks a lot.
I'll try that and see what happens.
Right now, I have no numbers or any sort of display. The only thing it does is light with the dash lights.
I'm thinking I agree with you that it is the module, and at 300 bucks, I can do without it, I just would like to have everything as good as I can afford........

Try Potomac German Auto in Frederick MD - they are an MB Only yard - they have a location in FL that does other european makes as well.
Pat is always real helpful - and they have been great in supporting the section. www.pgauto.com (http://www.pgauto.com)
Potomac German Auto is terrific. When I had my 84 300D I spent a lot of time there. They always had what I needed at a reasonable price. Fortunately I live within a short driving distance of Frederick. Highly recommended!
