Howdy,
I have the opportunity to buy a 99 C43 AMG for $18,000, the car only has 52k miles on it...and the car looks like it has never been taken off the showroom floor. The only MB that I like past 1995 is the 1999 and 2000 W202's, so this is a plus for me considering its a W202 with a v8....Now my reason for posting is that I'm wanting to know if there are any known issues with this car....I already have 2000 W202 (C230 Kompressor Sport) and I have not had a problem with it yet, and I've had it since new....but I want to know whether the c43's have any issues.....
Thanks JOSH (PROUD MB OWNER)

The main issue is the transmission. In some, owners experienced transmission failure as early as 50-60,000 miles. Other potential issues will be "standard" W202 C-class fare.

Where are you located? We recently had the pleasure of meeting with a few dozen AMG owners for a presentation by the AMG man himself; Rob Allan, AMG Manager - Product Mgmt (MBUSA). The majority of the event attendees are club members and a few of the non-members joined after the presentation. The event was held at Euro Motorcars, Germantown, MD (Washington, DC area). There is a brief write-up of the event and a few pictures on one of my blogs - this link (http://www.eoecho.com/allthingsmercedes/2006/05/amg-manager-product-management-rob-allan/) .
If you can, find out who serviced the car for the past 6-7 years. It is likely that one of our club members knows someone at the shop or dealership. Also, attend the next event or board meeting for the MBCA section in your area. Let everyone know you're interested in talking with other C43 owners. If you and/or the car you're looking at is in the MBCA Mid-Atlantic Region (http://www.mbca.org/pages/sections.htm) , let me know and I'll ask around.
Networking with other club members is one of our many membership benefits; for $45 you can plug into a tremendous network and possibly save a lot of time and money on your AMG purchase. I'll likely buy an AMG myself within the next year or so; please keep me posted on your findings. Thanks!

There is a fairly extensive discussion on the topic here...
