I just bought a 190SL, serial number 022052 (registered as a 1963 but I believe that the serial number indicates a 1961). I am sure I will have a LOT of questions, so let me express my appreciation for any help I receive in advance!
First question -- the door latch on the driver's side does not operate the way it is supposed to. My understanding is that a quarter turn to the front locks it and a quarter turn to the rear unlocks it (or vice versa -- I can't recall which). The passenger door operates this way, but for the driver's lock a full turn makes the button go in without doing anything. A full turn the other way makes it operate the latch. If it is locked from inside before the door is closed, it can't be unlocked from outside.
The passenger's latch says Kiekert on it and the driver's latch says Bomoro. Otherwise, they look pretty similar, although the driver's latch looks pretty new. I don't see any part numbers on either, but I haven't pulled them out to look.
Can anyone tell me what is going on? Also, what parts need to be replaced to correct this (I assume the latch on the driver's door is the wrong part, but maybe it is just not working properly)? Does the latch assembly need to be replaced, or is it some internal parts from the door lock mechanism that need replacement?
