JUST FOR MY OWN CURIOSITY WHAT IS A 1970 SE CABRIOLET IN PRISTINE CONDITION WORTH? I LOOKED AT ONE AT A REPAIR SHOP THE OHTER DAY.

Ot's hard to narrow down a price without knowing all the particulars. $30-50K would be a range, possibly.

Assuming a six cylinder, and a "real" cabriolet, I would go a little lower than Tom - maybe $30 to $40k. You've got to make sure it's the real thing, not a coupe conversion. A real 2.8 Cab should have a VIN that starts with 111 025, a coupe would have 111 024. A 3.5 Cab would be 111 027, coupe 111 026. You see people asking decent money for them but I think conversions are virtually worthless, perhaps worth less than the coupe from which they came.

Sports Car Market magazine's Price Guide says a '70, six-cylinder in "strong 3" to "weak 2" condition (which I translate to be an excellent street to good local show entrant) is worth $40-$50k.
That's a low grille, which I think (but am not positive) all '70s were.
This magazine reports auction results wordwide. I'm pretty sure their number include the auction buyer's premium.

Dean is right.. a converted coupe is worthless, and may have been done poorly. Avoid them at all cost..

The "Standard Guide to Cars and Prices - 1901 to 1995" has a 70 280SE Cab at $34.3 for a 2, a 69 at $32.9. It also has a 1970 3.5 Cab at $45k, which sounds low - asking prices are usually above $50k, but I do think there is a wide gap between asking prices and selling prices on these cars. My theory about the classic car market is that it's all about patience - a patience seller will eventually get a good price and a patience, hard working buyer, will eventually find a great deal.

I agree with both post from Dean and Tom.
Also if someone really wants the car they will be willing to pay.
The Cabriolets always demand top dollar.
It's the Coupes that I feel are under valued.
Happy driving.
