Many garages and MB dealers now use a method of draining oil from the engine by means of suction through the top of the engine. Consequently many of the "new" rookie technicians have never replaced a drain plug before. A copper washer is supplied for each filter change and should be replaced on the drain plug if indeed the drain plug is removed!!! Failure to do so can cause a messy garage floor and a slow oik leak from the pan. I was at a facility where this happened and had to return to get a complete oil change at no charge because of the copper washer being left off the drain plug. ASK!

The good old saying, "if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself".

When I was 16 and dumb, i went to jiffy lube to get an oil change on my 190 diesel benz, which they have those canister filters. they threw away a lot of the gaskets and copper stuff and it was leaking before i pulled out of the bay. Everytime i went to them, i had to end up fixing my own car.

So instead of paying them and teaching them, i just do it myself in the comfort of my garage.

If you have a diesel with a canister filter, look at the O-RINGS on the end of the oil filter tube. if they are old and brittle, replace them.
