I have a ml 320 w/272,000 miles on it. I,ve used mobil 1 oil since 1500 miles, premium gas, always. It goes about 2500 miles before it needs oil to be added. the engine still performs very well. the dealer has checked the codes and tells me the air channels in the head for the auxiary air injection system are clogged with carbon and the head has to be removed to clean them. Does anyone have another sollution to this problem? Like a solvevent and air pressure at the intake of the aux. air, would this damage anything inthe head or elsewhere? any suggestions would be appreciated, I don,t want to remove the heads if at all possible.

If you are happy with the performance and driving it the way it is, just keep driving it until you have another/additional reason to remove the head.

I intend to keep driving it,but would like the liight out so that it can warn of any other failures in the system. I am still looling for any suggestions on ways to clean it out.

I'm familiar with the check engine system on my cars. I've not been around an ML and don't know if their light works in a similar manner.

You might try resetting the light. On my wife's car the light comes on when there are three codes stored. I can reset it and the light will remain off for a month or two. When it comes on again, I pull the codes and it usually is for benign reasons, and I reset it again. Only once has it been for something I needed to fix right away. The engine was missing, the code indicated a fuel injector problem, and I found a loose electric connector on one injector.

Check with www.mercedesshop.com - they have an EGR cleanout procedure that does not require head removal . . .
