I'm rebuilding my vacuum pump in my 1980 300D and was wondering if anyone has any tricks of the trade to share.
I rebuilt this pump 7000 miles ago and am amazed it lasted so short a time before failing again. This makes me suspect I missed doing something properly the first time through.
I did follow a good set of instructions and felt all went well at the time. All the parts of the pump seemed solid (nothing loose/pitted, etc.) when it was apart so I'm a little befuddled as to what I did wrong.
I did post this question in the diesel forum and one reply suggested I check the cam follower face more closely this time. Does anyone have any other points or opinions? All input/ideas will be welcome as the parts arrived today and I'll shortly be redoing this repair.
