Hello guys, been here before asking questions about putting a 5 cly diesel into a '36 Ford truck and a 4 cly out of a '80 240D into a Model A PU. I've started on my Model A project. I've got it mocked up and it looks O.K. except for the oil filter. Does anyone have any ideas on how to relocate it to a remote location? It is right at the firewall and if I recess my firewall for clearance, I still don't have enough room to be able to lift the filter out. I'm going to pull the assy off the block to see if there is a way of tying onto whatever is there to try to relocate it. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks, Joe.

You might be able to use the complete oil filter housing assembly from an earlier 220D engine. It used a filter in a steel canister which hung below the housing. It may present another problem by intefering with the steering column.
An adapter plate with a remote filter might prove to be very hard to fabricate as there are 3 oil passages involved.

I've not seen a benz diesel motor up front and personal, but I've seen enough gasser varients over 22 years to presume that the mounting point for the filter to the block is probably similar if not exactly the same for the small inline engines. If so, you will have several options available to you for re-arranging things.
Might I suggest you take a trip to a junk yard or two and just look around?
Another thing to do is to get people to post pictures of what theirs looks like.
As a for instance, the v8s in the SLs have a very different filter mount from the sedans, but the block is identical. Another obvious difference is the Unimog/truck motors vs the sedans. However, you won't find too many of those in the US.
When you succeed, please be sure to show us how you did it.

Have several projects going, but this is one that has been on the back burner, but I finally got the frame, body, and engine together on one stand. So I will be working on this as time permits. Doing a little patching on the body, and I will be pulling the filter housing to see what is there. Will let you guys know what happens. Thanks for the imput. Joe.
