My ML320 drivers window went down today but won't come back up. Don't know if it could be a switch or something more complicated. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like the switch problem. It can be repaired or replaced. Check this site: http://www.grill.org/rodney/mclass/mlswitch/index.html

If it is a switch problem, and you are out of warranty or out of Starmark, be prepared to replace the entire switch assembly for all the windows controled by the console. It cames as a unit, w/o being able to replace individual switches. Lots of luck.

I've had a LOT of luck with MB switches using Radio Shack TV Tuner spray. Sometimes the contacts get gummy.

That's a super website, based on my experience.

I had the same experince with our 99 ML320 and was directed by someone in this forum to the website above. It quickly became an important issue because it was during the rainy season and my wife drives the 320. I believe I got some prices for the part and labor from the dealer and it was clearly out of sight. Also, you have to replace the whole switch assembly, you can't buy a switch for just one window.

By following the instructions in the website I not only repaired the bent switch lever which controlled the drivers side window but "fine-tuned" the other switches, just a bit, to delay the time when they get bent. The drivers-side switch gets used a lot and tends to bend and malfunction first. Don't over-bend the parts but bring them back at least to their original alignment.

The instructions and photographs are very clear and the switch repair itself was easy but did require a little care to get a couple of pieces put back in the right order. I think I may have had to take the completed assembly apart at one point because I had neglected to put on a switch handle or something at the right time.

NOW FOR THE HARD PART (at least for me)-

It took me about 3 tries, (3 sessions on the project on different days) before I finally was able to get the wood console out. It is a tight fit and you have the feeling you are going to break it. I just kept on for a couple of days, using a little more force each day.

The best hint I can give is to get some of those white plastic polyethelyne putty knives and use them as wedges, levers, and slippery pieces when removing the console itself.

Good luck

Thanks for all the responses. I went ahead and ordered the switch online(saved $70) and installed. Works great.

I can guarantee you that the URL cited by Walrath points to a perfect solution. The problem is almost certainly a slightly bent switch component .

Worked for me on my wife's 99 ML320. The drivers side always fails first because it gets the most use.

The only problem I had was getting the console panel out. It took several nights of trying, finally using some plastic putty knives to provide a little clearance along the sides.

Once you have removed the switch assembly from the console panel, be sure to follow the instructions precisely. I had to re-do part of the reassembly because I left one switch extension lever out when I put the system back together.

I also took advantage of the situation to do a little tweaking on the other switch levers.
