W124, Where was the Code LED placed in 1987?

Howdy,

I'm trying to pull codes on my 1987 w124 300e. I'm looking for the LED to read. If I understand correctly, I'm currently looking for a small black box around the battery area under the hood, but the closest thing I can find is the small red caped metal 10A fuse box.

Suspiciously there is an extension of the tray holding that fuse that looks like it once held something of a smiliar size, but looking deeply behind the battery I see nothing.

i think 1987 pre-dates "codes". Don't think you saw that until the early to mid-90's

Started in 1988 for some Calfornia version cars, 1990 for most others.
