On my 92 300D 2.5 turbo, the ABS light will come on for a couple days then go off for a couple days and repeat the loop.

When the light came on, i drove 50 mph down the street and slammed on the brakes, sure enough the abs did NOT kick in. But when the light is off, the ABS works normally.

Has anyone experienced this problem or have any ideas on the solution. I am assuming its a dirty ABS sensor.

Check the connections first. under the hood and on the rear end housing. Also replace the fuse.

Try cleaning your wheel sensors. The gaps tend to become filled with metal shaving which can casue this problem.

I had this problem with my '95 E420. It turned out to be a $25 relay that needed to be replaced. Its a quick fix, just snap out the old and snap in the new. Check your owners manual for the proper location (should be in the back of the fuse box). Good luck.
