Yes, that is a '99 C43 Canadian spec. It has the daylight running lights and cluster in metric. It has H&R springs, shocks, and cup kits. 19 x 9.5 fronts and 19 x 10.5 3piece Zauber Gettins. Yes that is an HPS Blower. They offer a paper filter setup now but this has a K&N in front of the LF inner fender, behind the lower fog light. This has been responsable for MAF meter replacements. Road crap blowing threw the louvers of the inner fender would lay on top of the filter. I put in a plastic baffle and made a pantyhose prefilter. I proceded to over oil the filter after that and ruin yet another MAF. It has C32 front brakes. Paul:D

the suspension on my car has to be changed...but I can't choose what I want to do after reading a million posts.
I've got to make a choice between:
RennTech front springs (these are the same as the Euro-C32 springs)
H&R Coilover kit - The popular choice, but I'm starting to hear hating on H&R coilovers
Bilstein PSS-9 - The BMW M3 guys love these.
Carlsson-RS - The priciest, and basically the PSS-9 with different springs (as is my understanding).
Let's be honest; I'm not tracking this car. The most it will see if occasional aggressive street driving and the auto-cross. I can't justify putting $2500 suspension into a car for just that kind of use. Any thoughts?

What is the most important factor in changing your stock C32 suspension?
1. Looks
2. Performance

I have found that additional modification may be necessary (adjustable sub-frames, etc.) if you get too exotic. Plus, if it is not done just right....you will eat tires at a ferocious rate.
One suggestion. Call Butler Tire (they advertise in our section newsletter) and talk with them. They may be able to offer solutions that will fit your needs. :)

Moebius -- I like your car alot. How do you find your HPS? I've been considering their supercharger and am also waiting for CKlasse's custom supercharger project to be finished.
I have the H&R springs but, what are cup kits? what do they do for handling? I'm looking for a new shock and am considering the Koni adjustable sport shocks. What would you recomend?
I also agree with you about oiled foam filters. MB just replaced my MAS that had been ruined by my RamFX foam filters. I'm just going to run OE filters and will change them often. Car runs alot better and alot quiter with a working MAS.
I had MB check my lower ball joints, front suspension bushings and steering shock -- they claimed that these parts were fine (have 75K on my car) but wrote on my repair bill: "checked suspension has aftermarket lowered springs on car -- no specs availible for lowered suspension." Have you run into a similar problem with the dealer? As far as I know, my car is running at the lowered stock European height that the car was originally designed for and those parts should wear out at 60K and should be replaced. (I have the 100K MB bumper to bumper Starmark).
Thanks,

Sheesh, what is it about the W202s and 208s that cause them to have such MAS problems with oiled filters?

Funny; I'm still waiting for Butler to give me a Pirelli quote from about 4 months ago; when they call me back on that, I'll ask them about suspension changes.
RBM would have a tough time making an argument about me voiding a warranty, considering they have business cards for suspension shops available in the "offices" of their service advisors.
I think I'm going to get the RennTech springs, since they are basically an AMG part. I don't seriously track this car, and if I did...my first move would be weight reduction before changing the suspension.

Brabus in Newport Beach has a supercharger upgrade for the 03 5.5 V8 which changes the HP from 493 to 540 and the torgue from 516 to 590. It costs $15,000 and takes about 3 days. It only voids the supercharger warranty, nothing else. It is very tempting

I was wondering where the pictures of Moebiusgold's car is. Having a 99 C43 I am really interested to see what you have done. I am looking into springs for mine and a few other mods.
I know I went on the AMG web site and did not find after market parts for my car. Where would I go to fdind some of the items like hood emblem etc. that others are mentioning? Also one last thing....I heard from my very German mechanic (he now specializes in Audi/VW) that AMG uses H&R springs. Anyone know if this is true. I wrote to them specifically but never heard back from them.
Thanks

I have H&R cup kits, springs and sport shocks with 5 dot pads all the way around. I need to get some adj. rear camber arms, -2.5 deg. is just too much. the outside tread blocks don't even toush the road on straight driving. The setup is too soft for my tastes as far as outright performace driving goes. I also need much bigger sway bars. Everyone else who has been in the car is impressed to how smooth the ride is. My stock C36 is harsher and firmer. The C-36 sticks better in turns, even with Escata 712's. 19" low profiles with lots of negative camber are not the way to go.

I Had some rear camber bars made from Speedybenz on Mercedesshop.com...They work Great! And Are a work of art!
BTW I have The Kumhos..Im VERY happy with them!
2.5 of negative camber is a tad too much!

Jeff as in Speedybenz frequents almost every MB forum that I have ever surfed. He's done all sorts of Mods to his C43. More perfomance mods by himself of his own design than anyone else in the world that I'm aware of. He is along my tastes. Performace mods, not mods for looks. He probably has the best handling and fastest normally aspirated W202 there is (excluding C55s for straight line). If I keep my C43 I'm going to make my own Adj. camber upper control arms using recyling yard Ford rear lower control arm adjusters. There is another guy on Club 202 from Fla. that makes Adj. rear arms with stock bushings, if you want to keep the noise down for the same price as Jeff's. Rod ends belong on race cars in my opinion. Urethane bushings are fine for street perfromance. Rubber is the best for quitness and vibration. My C43 needs a trans and differential at only 59K miles. The stock stuff just didn't like the extra torque of the SC and the lack of maint. by the previous owner. I have no idea what the reprgramming costs would be on the trans. A cooler for the Dif shouldn't be too expensive. At the moment I'm just enjoying the C36 as the daily driver while the 43 is in storage waiting it's yet to be determined fate.:confused:

Moebiusgold,
I just got my car back after having the H&R sport springs installed. H&R stateed a drop of 1.3 inches. In reality it dropped about 2.75 all the way around and now the car looks slammed rather than lowered.
Any suggestions short of going back to the original springs. Would a different set of pads be the answer. I am not sure which pads I have but I know they are what wa speced with the car originally as the previous owner made zero modifications.

ALL hot wire MAF sensors are sensitive to dirty (or oil-laden) air - I posted a warning to this list several weeks ago and I preach it in my tech seminars - DO NOT use K&N (or any other so-called high flow) air filters with the hot-wire MAF system.
The MB OEM filters are superior to any after market filter in efficiency and surface area . . . they will protect your MAF sensor - those things are expensive . . .

Hi Guys;
Love the nice horn install.
I have changed the base settings on my AMG In ME
There base 87 oct. 89 oct. 91 oct. and 93 oct.
I bummped her up to sstting 93.
So far in 3 days she is much more crisp. ( ibet do to adv.) The Temps have been below 70 Deg F. Not sure what will happen in the hoter days and where the retard will drop to.
Looking forword to a bit better MPG also.
By the way can anybody tell me what base is?
seems the dealer MBUSA has no idea.
Also crew how can one get to Dyno mode with out steering wheel buttons?
I have gotton it 1 time. But as soon as you restart the old girl she go back.
I really want to get that Dyno mode on again.

I think the base setting is 91.
Hi Chappy:
Thanks for the info.
I to thought it maybe 91 as its a 91 oct. rated auto.
I will add. now I am not sure. As the computer in ME listed this. car in base.
other to chose where 87 & 91 and 93 and base.
Why would thay list a choice as 87-91-93 and base??
This is why I sure would like ( Need) a difinitive answer.
I wounder if base could be a wider range for US cars as thay are not to be changed for fuel as world cars....
So many ?s. I am not sure if the 93 I am at know is going to hinder her in high temp times. ect.
Folks also still looking for Dyno Mode for this car.
I know there has to be some smog guys here who know.
Heck P.M. if you can not say it out loud.
Sighned
Still looking to dial her in.

No dyno mode for the R170, IIRC. I would recommend you visit your dealer or independent expert to tell you what the octane setting is on your car.
Hi Chappy;
Thanks for the email. It seems I have trouble communicating here.
***There is a Dyno Mode:
I have used it. Its is nice to drive this way...
If need be I can send you photos of a burn out over a block long. I did not take a photo of the dash lights that showed I was in Dyno mode.
This is why I am trying to get some info here from MBNA or what ever there called now.
I also tried to convey;
That I know the settings are in "Base mode". I have changed them to 93 Oct. The comp shows these AMG as set in BASE MODE.
I have a lot of cars and a few race cars that use High Oct leaded and unleaded
I mix a gal of 100 Oct unleaded with our best 91 Oct here. So I reset her to 93 Oct.
Again: *This is why I sure would like ( Need) a difinitive answer.
As you say;
"visit your dealer or independent expert to tell you what the octane setting is on your car." Thay do not even know What The Base is. I have to show them on the computer the options. and thay "wow" Thats nice we would like to know too!!!!!!
I have tried asking them I have tried paying them. All I can find with in 115 miles.
I have talked to Master Tecks I did not know and a 2 I knew when thay 1st started worknig for MBNA in the 1980s
I have called N.J. all to no avale.
I have folks working on it. and MB said yes my car has a Dyno mode after I showed them it did. Thay all do guys its just a big hassle to get info.
Its like asking them why no Limited slip on there best and fastest cars. The dealer said yes there is its an Elec. locker ....NOT!
AMGUSA MBNA will only tell you thay have it on some modles because of draw back thay I know about.
Then I ask them what draw backs on 300 +H.P cars are the draw backs. And you never hear from them. And when you use some help from folks In Germany who worked at AMG to talk to the US AMG crew. thayUS tell me things that still do not answer the D-m questions.
Chappy u and Limited others I thank for trying, But what we need in the comunity of fast AMG cars is real answers not guessing and real traning for the Master tecks so there is some uniformity in info and sae oil changes ect.
I thank You very much .. For your guys time and hope you can understand all i am trying to do is get the cars to be and do what the cars where bulit to do to there fullest and safest.
I know my English ect & writing ect, is the worst, "But I am not a dummy about Auto Engineering."
I am so frustrated there is no reason for it to be so difficult. I do understand the Difficulties of doing this in the US. But one does wonder why is so easy to find this kind of info on other makes coming from Germany.....
These guys in the US DB / MB talk like there running for office, around in circles.
So yes there is a Dyno Mode and the AMG cars a set at Base mode.
Now what it is?(base)
agian the computer listed this;
set at Base mode. opptions are;
89-91-93
My ? is base low 87? If so thay are set at there lowest setting. Less advance. means less power and less MPG.
I am tring to check my MPG but want to do a few tanks of gas to I have a bstter base to judge. as I have always checked it many times in its stock base mode settings in ME.

I see we are at an impasse. You would like answers to questions that may not be available though a dealership, MBUSA or AMG. Give some thought to the fact that you may be asking for proprietary information a manufacturer is not willing to release to the general public.
My suggestion (if you haven't already) is to reach out to the AMG Owners Club in Germany.
One of the forums there is in english.
http://www.amg-owners-club.org/board/en/wbb2/
Another is to contact some aftermarket tuners that may have the information you seek (base setting, etc.). Whether they share that information with you or not is another matter.
Try: RENNtech, Brabus, Kleemann, Evosport, Powerchips, etc.
Good luck in your search.
Hi Chappy Thanks for the hotrod guys info. I know Harmut Sehl(sp) from years ago. AMG and then DelRay Florida.
Maybe I should PM you this info. Well brifly. I was a Indy car team guy (Frt Susp) with Greg Moore and more. Greg was great Driver and person . We and MBNA lost a good human in that indy Car tragitiy years ago.( around the time you joined up, i think.
I drove the Buxbaum Familys 32 V-190 (AMG Press). (In those days as MBNA was racing INDY CAR.) If any of you know where that car (32V 190) is today Please PM me I would love to own it as I let it slip away. Also I have info for you on it!
I have contacts. I/we need real info. I am not used to a Manufaturer and its customers who do not know the simple settings that are in our AMG cars.
Now you bring up this ;
"proprietary information a manufacturer is not willing to release to the general public.
You see the problem is the mb guys do not even know.
Why do you think the Euro 32s put out 354 H.P. and the USA 32 put out 340+ H.P.? One thing is the Base setting in me.
I hate to say I, this and that.
I do still know some master guys , thay had no idea. same as the dealers. There all trying to find out now as thay have seen and understand. Thay can not beleave thay do/did not have knowlege of this.
You even thought there was NO Dyno mode. There is a big problem here with info.
I can Not use the tuners info on my car as I live in Calif now.
** I want my car stock, but at its best rate of tune** .... Yes some can change things for me. In the case of the Fl. crew I will not be by law, able to have it in CA.
I do not need any smog hassels. Its just a driver.
I forgot to tell you: In dyno mode the car hits the rev limiter about 3 bunces before she shifts.
As I said I have contacted folks who I have worked with in the 80s and 90 in MBNA. My good buddie was one of the youngest guys picked to work In Germany On the AMG 16s I beleave he crashed the 1st one testing it (he he eh ).
Beleave me, I have contacted humans all over the globe with help. How do you think i got so much info in short time.
I did not know about the Germay AMG .com site. BIG THANK YOU for that Thanks!
We/I still need more.... MB Dealers should know about the cars there selling in this group AMG.
Thanks Again for the Eruo AMG site.

As I have said. Now the dealer and Tecks get its also. As thay now wonder why that do not even know. Still searching.... Them and I.
Also Now I hope you understand a little better why I do not want tuner modes.
All i am trying to do is get the cars to be and do what the cars where bulit to do to there fullest and safest....
Ps In that time. MBNA gave G. Moore a SLK and we all got to run it on the track!
It was rare in those days.

Oh...
I got the info from the German AMG site you told me about.
There is a poster from the U.S.A. with your handle "Chappy"
'
Check it out, All kinda of photos Trucks Slks people and a old Blk and white photo I asked you about.
I hope you could read my post above about a impasse.
Because I just think it is a info issue.
Why did you think that there is no Dyn mode for c32 cars?
The site you put me too.
Some of them had the same trouble I have with the exact same issues.
It was refresshing to see it on line. As you said it could be a proprietary issue.

Yes, I have been registered at the German site for several years. Dyno mode for C32.....yes, my friend had one on his 2003 C32.
My post above states (post #42) "No dyno mode for the R170, IIRC."
Please bear in in mind, my reference to any dyno mode is meant to be owner selectable using steering wheel buttons, not any diagnostic mode or access using proprietary Star Diagnose or other tools, which most owners do not have access to.
I've also got another buddy that owned a 2002 C32. I'm not certain his had a dyno mode.
Hi Chappy;
This is crazy..
If its you on that site, was I in the wrong area for photos?? You said not you in other post. Check it out I was sure thay where listed under your photos. Again I could of missunderstood the post who knows..This is why folks dont undersatnd each other some times..
I just posted to you on another the US site if its you.
You asked me how to change from base. To bad nobody even knows what base is so far.
Ok I see you mean Sterring wheel stuff. Your buddies car can also be put in dyno mode very easy..
Mine & all SLK32s I thought did not have buttons on the wheel.. Am i incorrect on that?
I am not saying one needs to do this. I am saying it is easy( & should be easy) to do with out any using proprietary Star Diagnose tools. Heck some modles you can do it by touching two differnt pins ect....
this is where the issues are with MBNA. no comunication. as I have said the poor dealers I have delt with did not even know these things. Let alone what the US cars Base mode is. Dont forget the 32 have less HP than there brothers over seas. Its all just a little tweek here and there.
All some of us want is the best out of our produts. Not watered down , but top line Sporting is what I (used to) beleave AMG stood/stands for.
MBNA Needs to comunicate with AMG Germany...

I'm not the Ford/Mustang racer. You have me confused with another poster on that site. I am "Chappy" on most MB sites that I'm active on.
I'm still confused on how you put your 2002 SLK32 into dyno mode without steering wheel buttons. How did you accomplish this? Do you have a Star Diagnose (or similar) computer?
Hi Chappy;
Here is the link to the Chappy who posts on AMG Germany and click his photos. at lest you will see why I thought it was you.http://www.amg-owners-club.org/board/en/wbb2/profile.php?userid=261&sid=6bf522d6fd6f4352bd585ef49801e520
Some what.. Computers are computers. Up North I have a buddie who programs any and all race cars and hot street cars pre 75 with Modern electrics. Thanks to you I have contacted the crew down in Florida and as you know I do not want new softwhere ect. Just stock, as good as can be for Calif.
I still want to be able to do it at will. In some you can touch pins and wha la!
I just got on line and have a email from Them. I hope to get the info correct when I can do it eveytime.
But hay, what if its as you say proprietary... Maybe I can not tell you all.....
Its a joke crew. But see if the info is here we should know. We paid for it through the nose.

Hi Chappy;
I gotta go. But Quickly. I am sorry I thought Folks new INDY CAR was the old CART.Indy 500 ect. Its a Top racing teams in the US open wheel cars. Not Nascar. Not Star fest.
I also have not been involved with any MB stuff in over 10 years except to drive them on the street and a few track events with other clubs.
I was reading your handle and it said you where the Press. in the times I was with the MB Illmore CART INDY CAR Racing teams.
The US Press of This club got invited to our events by Mike Jackson and crew who was the new Big guys at MBNA.
I had meet the Press of the this club at our Dinners. At the track I was some what busy and we could not talk much but small talk. Si Thought it may have been you as you where the Pres of this club in those days.
So This was years ago when Teams where Running MB in CART INDY CAR .
Have a Good weekend crew.
