I am very impressed with this forum. So much that I spent most of this Sunday morning and now into the afternoon poking around and reading all sorts of great stuff. I decided to join so here I am. "I got my car back" means that a few years ago I regretfully sold my 1985 380SE. This past week I was able to locate and purchase a replacement which is even nicer than the one I sold. Same color and Interior. The difference being the one I sold had 196,000 miles on it and the one I found has 42,000! I can't believe this car even exists. It is truly a magnificent survivor. Most of these cars had the wheels driven off of them. I hope someone can answer some questions. First, the timing chain issue. It was replaced at 38,000 with a 186 link chain. Is that the single or double version? Second, what is the M-B Data Plate? Should I mail in for a new one since I am the new owner? Next I have every record on this card and noticed it is on it's sixth battery. Is this because it has not been driven much? Or should I be looking for a short somewhere? Last can anyone recommend a car appraiser in the Orlando area? Thanks for posting

If it's a 1985 even the factory chain was a double row. He probably replaced it for piece of mind afraid that the plastic guides would have become brittle over time.

Car batteries care more about time than miles (and especially time over the seasons, i.e. changing temperatures) so being on the 6th battery isn't all that odd. Is it an MB battery? IMHO those are the best.

Thanks alot for the reply. I'm glad to know the chain was already done. I don't know what a IMHO is but the new battery is a 100amp with a Mercecdes Benz sticker and part number on it.
