I was wondering if any one had a spare tumbler assembly (the lock mechanism that you put the key into in the dash to start the car). I have contacted my friend who is a certified Mercedes service tech to get the ignition switch for my car. He contacted the Mercedes classic center. I talked with him today and apparently it will take 9 months to be sent if it even does ship. He said their are four sets of keys and Im getting the lot of them (4 keys) and the ignition switch.
this is from the horses mouth
"Well, what we're looking at is locating a similar vehicle in a junk yard and pulling the steering lock from it with tumbler and all then ship it to Mercedes so it can be keyed to your car or to a new set of keys or whatever they do. If we try to order a "new" one it may take as little as 9 months to get here. If it ever does...."
My understanding is that this "tumbler" is the ignition switch, but the way that my friend told me is that it connects to the ignition switch which that turns on the engine. So which is it? A combined assembly or two different things?
What are you alls thoughts and opinions?
