Checking in from the Central VA section- how many members do we have on here I wonder?

Maybe let's start a roll call...

I'm actually registered in GWS. Though I spend more time here in Central VA. Have a place in Bremo Bluff. It's 50 miles west of Richmond, on the James River.

How active is the CV section?

We're pretty active- just now getting together our schedule of events for the year- we might do a combined event with GWS too-

On the docket: a few driveway tech sessions, Brown M-B (Charlottesville) tech session on 3/27, an October rallye and Oktoberfest event, among other things- will post upcoming events here if there is interest-

Overall, trying to put together some real car-oriented events, even things as simple as driveway sessions.

Sounds great. I do most of my major service at Brown, and deal with Mike. The rest I do myself.

Keep me informed.

Dan,

We're always looking to meet new members at our events here in Central Virginia. If you can make it, join us for the Tech Session on March 27. We are looking for more members to become active with our section. We hope to see you at the next event.

I'm not exactly a new member, but getting together sounds like a good time. Did I read somewhere that members can be assigned to more than one section?

Before the Central VA section was formed I was in another VA section. There was a bunch of political junk going on, and I switched to GWS.

Dan,

Thanks for the reply. I believe the cost is $15 per additional section you join. You can call the NBO in CO to confirm (800-637-2360) or get more details.

It is my observation that a lot of the political wrangling has subsided and most of the members realize working together is the best way to enjoy the club. After all, its a car club that MB owners join to have fun in their spare time. Our Regional Director, Robby Ackerman, has made significant progress by focusing on activities and not differences in opinion. Robby is also very active with the NBO and the MBCA Forum. I'm on two national committees myself: newsletter and The Star committees. If you would like to get more involved either with us here in Central VA or Nationally, let me know.

Last year I attended a few GWS and Virginia Section events. These two sections have a higher degree of member participation than Central VA; however, we are making progress with our attempts to entice additional members to join us here. We can always use additional marketing assistance. The club is very enjoyable for those with the right attitude; I personally chose to ignore the rest (life's too short).

Besides the Tech Session on March 27, we have a Monticello tour/rallye/winery visit scheduled for May 8 (Charlottesville) and a visit to Wintergreen Resort planned on October 2 (Oktoberfest party). We are also planning a few Driveway Mechanic events for the summer and a holiday party at the end of the year. You'll find additional details in our newsletter, which I'm wrapping up today and tomorrow.

I look forward to meeting you at the events.

Thanks Greg for your info. By the way what exactly is a driveway tech session?

I do a lot of work myself and usually have to finish the job that Brown in C'ville starts. Just wondering how involved these sessions are.

The tours and so on sound like good time, however driving a utilitarian wagon is certainly not as fun as a 72' SL.

I'll keep a little closer to the Central VA events, hope to see all there.

Hey Dan, at least your utilitarian wagon has a gasoline engine!

I'll be chugging along in my TD... unless I take the 4.5.

Hope to see you at some of the upcoming events.

Oh, and the driveway tech sessions are meant to be somewhat informal, we were thinking of tackling some minor jobs that some people would like to attempt on their own (I think replacing a window regulator would be a great tech session, for example)

If possible, we want one of them to happen at somebody's garage, an actual shop.

We'll keep you posted.

Justin,

We can get you a head start, then follow the trail of smoke. I've been the happy owner of a couple TD's. An 80' and 87'. The 80' was a non turbo. The 87' was quite fast though, for a Diesel.
