Need help therefore I return to the source. I have some questions regarding my 71 se 3.5 cab.
1. I would lioke to clean the glass in the instrument cluster...on the inside. That is the speed, the tack and the center gauges. Can I pull out these three items and just separate the glass, or is it more complicated?
2. The courtesy lights under the dash on the driver and passenger side. Do these remove by pulling them out from below, or does the bottom of the dash have to be removed?
3. One of my foward fog/turning/park lights (amber) is older and slightly off color compared with the other, and I have a source for a new one. The source says that this new unit has a part number 108 820 00 20. How (where) do I go to get a cross reference parts list insuring this will fit my car?
Again all help greatly appreciated.

Hi Jim,
If you use EPC you shouild be able to cross reference the lights. I have a pair of new in the box amber round lenses for the front turn/running lights that I bought and don't need because I am going to put the correct for my car European fog lights on it. If you want them they are $30 = $5 shipping. I can check the part # tonight.

Hello Jim,

The courtesy lights pop out from the under-dash panels. Ther are fragile and the plastic becomes very brittle with age, so be careful! Sometimes they just fall apart.

The chrome bezel on the guages must be removed before the glass can be cleaned on the inside. The bezel is crimped over the gauges so you may not wish to attempt the project yourself. You can successfully remove them by slowly and evenly loosening the crimp with the right tool or you may want to have an experienced speedometer shop do the work.

I always remove the steering wheel before doing dash work. It removes easily and make any dashwork so much easier. No puller is required. If you plan on removing your gauges let us know and we will give you the sequence of steps for removal.

Speaking of tools, what kind of wrench is used to remove the interior split ring escutcheons in a W 108/109 sedan or W 111 coupe? These include the threaded chrome fasteners that secure the dash knobs as well as the larger brass circular nuts (?) used to tighten the split arm rests on the front bucket seats (W111 coupe). I have seen mechanics using tools specifically designed for these fasterners but can't find them anywhere! I will even pay to rent them.

Also, the same sort of tool would be used to remove the smaller split ring washers that secure the glove box hinges on a W123 300D, CD, or TD.

Thanks!
