I own a 1983 300TD with an automatic transmission problem. The transmission will shift from park, to reverse, to forward and will shift between first and second but will not shift into third or fourth.
The transmission shop checked the modulator and it appears to be O.K. They tend to think it is in the vacuum system. We recently rebuilt the brakes and they are very hard. When you placed your foot on the brake pedal and crank the engine the pedal does not depress slighly, which I think it shoud. Their recommendation is to check out the vacuum system.
The vacuum system appears to work but may not be working effeciently. Any suggestions as to the possibility that it could be caused by the vacuum system and as to how best to check the vacuum system.
