Hello all,
I have a 1983 300d turbodiesel with 260,000 miles. I've had this car since it was brand new (my Dad and I since it's as old as me) For the past year or so, the transmission downshifts rather hard from 4th to 3rd when you push on the accelerator enough to make it kick down. Usually, I'll pull it down to 3rd with the shifter at lower RPM to downshift when I need acceleration to avoid the automatic downshift that is sometimes jarring. Nothing has ever been done to the transmission with the exception of fluid/filter changes. Any ideas on hopefully a quick fix to this jarring problem. I know the shifts can sometimes be harsh, but the downshift from 4th to 3rd when not done manually seems like it could do damage. All other shifting is perfect upshifting and downshifting. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Sincerely,
Adam Cord
