HI folks,

Just acquired a '67 230 SL from Daniel Schmitt in St. Louis. Real nice restoration, but still, I can't help but tinker a lot, so, lots of questions. My first question, what's the handle-like tool for? About 8 inches long, curved slightly, looks like half a plier? Roof tool? Car jacker whacker? I have no manual yet so I'm in the dark on its use.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Get an owners manual! It'll help answer a lot of questions for you. If MBUSA doesn't have one, try eBay

No, not on a 230SL, the top handles are integrated into the top.

Hi The tool described still sounds like a top handle that may or may not have come with the veh.Joeym

Appreciate the input everyone. Noticed something else I could use clarification on. The steering wheel, slightly closer to the dash on the left side than the right. Someone told me this was the way they were designed? News to me! Is this true?

Yes, this is actually the design norm in 99% of all cars - some are more noticeable than others, but it's actually rare for the steering wheel to be centered, nor is the steeing shaft usually exactly parallel to the direction of travel.

Look in any other car to see what i mean. My dad's 2001 Olds is off to the left by almost 3"

Wow..I've owned 30 some cars and this is the first one that had a noticeable difference in the set on the steering wheel. Very interesting. Thanks for setting the issue straight.
