I have a 1963 220s and for safety would like to add belts. I know they were an option in 63 and the car has factory drilled attachment points on the transmission tunnel (for the lap portion front seats) and the upper b pillars, but no attachment points on the lower b pillar or any other place I can see. I can't figure if a 3-point belt could be installed, It seems odd they would just have a shoulder belt and no lap belt? I know I could drill the fllorpan to add an attachment point, but I want to do this right. Any help / insight is much appreciated!

It may take some persistence, but you need to contact MBUSA to find out if there is a work instruction on this retrofit. My guess is that they will have to contact Germany to find out. If there IS, it'll explain exactly what to do. If there is no instructions, then officially "it can't be done".
Start with the customer center at 1 800 FOR MERCedes, and explain the dilemma. They will most certainly have to contact their technical literature department, and they likely won't have info that old on the shelf, someone will ahve to do some research.
Hmm, thinking about it, call the classic center first, maybe they have it on the shelf...

It sounds like you may only have attachment points for a 'shoulder belt' without the lap belt. My 1965 car came with shoulder belts but had the lower attachment at the bottom of the B pillar for the 3 point belt, so it was an easy change form two point toi three point

Thanks, George Murphy has kindly offered to send the service letter for the installation. I think there are several ways to do this but I want to keep the car as original as possible without compromissing safety. I will pass any knowledge I gain along.

Good, I need that info as well. I remember on a previous 230S I owned that there were eye-bolts in the floor with small metal pieces on the underside, and a nut of course. I would prefer a cleaner installation in my current 220S.
