get in the car close the door and it kinda latches. sometimes i have to slam it really hard to get it to shut and latch tight.

tried lubing the latch, used silcon spray lithium grease spay, and 3n1 oil.shuts a little better, for a while, but still not consistent.

is there some sort of an adjustment, or fix?

rear doors do better than front doors, properly closing 80% of the time on the first try.

front doors usually take some really hard swings.

Try the door check straps. These keep the door open on a hill and keep the doows from opening too far.

These fail sometimes due to leaking water from dried-out rubber side-window seals. Sometimes lubricating these will help and sometimes they need replacement. The little spring-loaded ball in this unit sometimes gets stuck and makes closing very hard or impossible.

First, try lubricating this part with a WD-40 using the straw to get in there.

Then if you must, remove your interior door panels to get greater access to these check straps. Remove and replace if necessary.

By the way...My 300d has always required quite a slam to shut since it was new in 1983; so I know it normal for a substantial effort. I always compare my door closing to that of a bank safe. :) I like the feel as it is much more substantial than any other vehicle I've ever encountered.

Hope this provides some insight!

that helps. i have no problem with moving. actually if i'm sitting on an incline they will close on thier own just won't latch completely. then i'm a rattlin' and i've got to reach across the car, and steer, or stop, to shut the door, again and again, till it latches.

the parts car i have is an 82 and the dorrs close like a dream solid, just a little effort but no pull back and slam action.

just wondering if the latch had some adjustment tolerance, or do you just replace when worn?

I really don't know about the technical tolerances on the doors...I do know that the driver door of my car has been open and shut tens of thousands of times and I have never adjusted anything. (except for replacing the "check straps") Perhaps there is some sort of way to fine tune the actual latch, but I haven't had any experience with that. Good Luck and sorry I couldn't help!

the syspmtom you stated sounds like a door striker plate. they mount to the body by 4 5mm allen bolts. they should have a little plastc ear where the latch hits the striker. if said ear is deteriorated, replace them.
