Some changes had to be made regarding some of the events at Amelia Island. Please note the updated/corrected schedule of events below. I apologize if any of you need to change your plans, but some things are out of our control.
Please excuse me if you are receiving this information for the second or even the third time. I'd rather you get it more than once than not at all. Contact me or the principles involved if you have any further questions.
Len Sokoloff
Southeast Regional Director
Friday evening, March 12:
Note the date change for this one from Saturday to Friday:
1. The Southern Stars Section will be having a dinner on Amelia Island. At this point I believe that the following people have committed to the Southern Stars dinner - Richard Simonds, Jim O'Sullivan, Rodger Van Ness, David Cummings, Ed Johnson and me. Dinner will be at approximately 7:30PM or so. At 6PM there will be a combination cocktail "hour" and Southeast Regional meeting. Our National Officers and Executive Director will basically be the agenda for the meeting. This cocktail hour is open to all and I hope that you will attend if you are coming to Amelia. You don't have to stay for dinner, but we'd sure like you to. At this point, it looks like 7 or 8 of our section presidents will be there. See more details at http://groups.msn.com/SouthernStarsSectionMBCA. You may also contact Jackie Manson, Southern Stars president directly at whitestars@msn.com.
2. The Central Florida Section will be having a dinner in St. Mary's, GA which is about a half an hour from Amelia Island. Contact David Gray to reserve a spot - DWGRAYFL@aol.com.
Saturday evening, March 13:
1. The Central Florida Section will be having a dinner in St. Mary's, GA again. Contact David Gray to reserve a spot - DWGRAYFL@aol.com.
2. The Peachtree Section will be having a dinner on Amelia Island. Joan Mann is the contact person for the Peachtree dinner - aamann@netzero.net.
3. MBUSA will be hosting an invitation only banquet on Amelia Island.
Sunday about 11AM - the Central Florida Section will be having a brunch right in the clubhouse near where the concours is being held. Richard and I and several others will be going to this one. Contact David Gray to reserve a spot - DWGRAYFL@aol.com.
For those of you looking for a place to stay, I believe that accommodations on Amelia Island are not only expensive, but probably already booked. The Central Florida Section has reserved rooms at a motel in St. Mary's for about $50. Last year a number of us stayed in Kingsland, GA which is about 20 minutes north of Amelia Island and about 15 minutes from St. Mary's. There is a Hampton Inn there as well as a Best Western. Both of them are around $70. Of the two, I'd recommend the Best Western if you choose to stay in the Kingsland area. And finally,
Jackie Manson, president of the Southern Stars Section, has reserved some rooms on Jekyll Island which is a little over an hour from Amelia Island. Rooms on Jekyll Island are about $50. I think Richard and Rodger and David are staying on Jekyll.
All of you are invited to join us in some of these activities. In fact we'd love for you to attend more than one. There will also be club members from other sections joining us at these events. Contact the appropriate club president or go to the Southeast Region's webpage and click on the appropriate link - http://www.mbca.org/southeast/. We do need RSVP's by the
first of March.
