I'm sure this has been addressed before but I'm returning to the Forum after a long absence so...
I need a new thermostat for my '58 220S. Lowest price I've been quoted so far is $130. Unacceptable! Any advice? Thanks.

That is $9.00 below dealer cost dude. I bet it'll get acceptable the more you check around.

If you're really cheap and handy, you can disassemble the old one, replace the actual thermostat with one off the shelf of the right temp. range and reseal the unit. Some of the ponton guys have done that, but for $130 for a part that's going to last me at least ten years, I'm willing to buy it new. For awhile it was not available at any price.

Len: Jim Friswold @ Vintage mercedes Benz Parts & Restorations show one in the old catalog I have and the price is about $75.00. Check with him at jimfriswold@verizon.net or call 503-639-1158. He may or may not have one but he is a nice guy to deal with. Charliecarnut
