280SL Vin #

Hello! I'm busy negotiating the purchase of a 1969 280SL in South Africa.
The Vin # is 10801860033956 and engine # 13098020011712.
I would be grateful if someone could confirm that these are correct numbers for this car.

Hi Alec,

The serial numbers you've provided indicates that the car is a 280SE (Sedan) or perhaps a 280SEL. I can tell that by the 108018 in the serial number. The engine number 130980 also indicates the 2.8L engine that matches a 280SE or 280SEL.

A 280SL serial number would start with 113044. The matching 2.8L engine serial number would start with 130983.

This is definately not a 280SL....be forewarned. :(
