Gee! You mean I'm The first to tred these waters?

Anyway here's the Question that needs some satisfactory answers.

" As a 240D Daily Driver I would like to be able to get more horsepower or torgue out of my puppy. Is there anything out there?".

Given that it's an engine and trany that are relatively new.

Hey, it is great to have you as the first trying these waters!

Good question and the answer is YES.

At the last StarFest I meet an older gentleman and we talked for hours under the Michelin tent. He lives 12 miles west of Indianapolis and he put a 240D engine in his 450SL. Over the course of the afternoon he went over every step including the turbocharger he installed on the 240 Diesel engine. He didn't install a wastegate on the turbo and his comment was the faster he'd drive it the faster it would go and claims to actually nipped into triple digit speeds with it.

It is known that the triple K turbos used on the '83 300D were factory set to release boost at .6 atm. Adjusting the gate to release at .9 atm knocks two seconds off their 0 to 50 mph time. The engines can handle the pressure. The issue becomes one of heat dissipation as the pressure increases.

I'm trying to remember his name. Bob ... Bob Sowle. Lives in Avon, Indiana and he is 83-years-old. Give him a call. His phone number was 272-6831 though I don't remember his area code. You can look that up.
