It's my understanding, and others with more experience will hopefully chime in, that the non-turbo head does not have the high-temp valves required in the turbo version, and the non-turbo block does not have the cylinder oil spray required for cooling the turbo version. Saw this in prior posts from Marshall Booth.
Where is Marshall?

No. They are incompatible engines. The turbo head and block has many different parts designed to cope with the extra stress of the turbo.

If you want a turbo car, buy one. It is impractical to put a turbo on your car (and probably will dramatically shorten engine life), and swapping in a turbo engine is a lot of work but is do-able. Getting a turbo engine to play nicely with a four speed manual transmission will take some tinkering but the path has already been blazed and the information is out there.
