The fan for the climate control has this terrible intermittent squeal. I assume it is the fan bearing? How do I remedy this? I don't expect there is a special MB snake tool that will deliver one drop of oil right where it is needed.

Second question:

My '94 E320 has two air filters for the climate control system. I remove the plastic covering the air intake below the windshield and insert two paper filters. On my son's '93 300TE 4-Matic I can see that there are no filters in this location. Is the '93 set up to use filters just like in my '94? It is a bit of work to pull all that stuff out and I didn't want to take it apart just to find the '93 is a different system. I'd like to throw in a couple filters if it is built for such.

1. You already know where the fan is and how to get to it. Afew drops of ATF should take care of it. Do not use oil.

2. Before you put it back together, install a new filter.

Is the best way to get to it via removal of the center console?

From outside. Everything is reached by removing stuff, starting with the windshield wiper assembly. To get to it from inside the car is 3-5 days work. Everytrhing below the windshield and above the bare floor, including the center console, must be removed. The tech manual for the 124 has the exact proceedure. Since our writer has changed filters on another 124, he should be able to do this job.

Thanks, and yes I've replaced those filters.
