in washing my car myself, I've noticed a couple of spots where I have complete chips out of the paint. In some cases, the damage goes down to the bare metal (I've just returned from 2,500 miles of 75 mph driving)

what's the smart way to protect those areas until I can get my body shop on them?

Clean the area with a tar remover/ solvent and Touch up with the MB Touch up..Then use a Product called LANGA to blend the touch up paint..it will smooth it out....langa.com
It Works Great!...If the Area is to Large..Several Detail shops offer to Air Brush the chips...I Have seen great results on both!

Mark - thanks for the response, but langa.com is not an automotive website...it appears to have something to do with audio/video

these chips are very small...no larger than the head of a pencil eraser...where can Langa be bought?

I use tooth picks to fill in the tiny stone chips with MB touch up paint. Just a little dab. Do the less noticable chips first.

An old trick is to tear out a match from a book of matches and use the torn end to apply paint. Kind of like a very small brush and you don't have to clean it. Price is right too!

I also use the matchstick method although I use scissors to cut the end of the stick to a 45 degree angle. This creates a sharp tip that allows very little paint to go into the chip. It's also best to put on one layer at a time and wait about 3 hours before applying another coat. Continue applying paint until the chip has filled. Use the Langka to smooth it out and bring out the hidden metallics (if you have metallic paint). Works great but takes time and patience.:)
