I have bought a 1994 E320 Cabriolet and want a working knowledge of my car. I will not do any major maintanence or repairs but might piddle at some smaller projects.

I have seen for sale the Mercedes CD, the Haynes 124 Bible and the 1986-1995 Mercedes Benz E Class Owners Bible. Is one of these better than the others or should I get all three?

Thanks!
Cal Ratcliff

The E Class Owners Bible will likely provide you with the level of information you seek. As regards, the convertible top and mechanism, you won't find any information in any of the documentation. If Mercedes didn't make it, they don't document it. Same with diesel turbos and many other assemblies.

The cd-rom will be the most accurate. Haynes manuals are written and printed in England and pretty much pertain to Euro models with right-hand-drive.

Judge for yourself which data meets your needs. A description of the "Bible" is at:

http://www.bentleypublishers.com/product.htm?code=GMOB&stickyEmail=&ticket=none

If you want more detailed information and repair instructions, the Mercedes CD is far superior to any aftermarket literature.

For Tom Hanson:

I think you may have confused the Bible publisher (Bentley) with the other publisher (Haynes). The Mercedes 124 Owners Bible from Bentley Publishing is edited by Stu Ritter of Denver, Colorado. Stu has 25 or so years experience working on Mercedes automobiles, very few of them Euro models. I used to get them confused when working on other makes of German cars for which both companies publish repair manuals.

Now I have the 1986-1995 Mercedes Benz E Class Owners Bible, but also was looking for more detail. When I search the web I see all types of manuals: Engine Manual, Electrical Troubleshooting Manual, Maintanence Manual, Climate Control Manual, Chasis & Body Manual, Parts Manual, Service Manual....I think you get the idea.

Anyway, my question is do you need all of these or is everything overed on the Mercedes CD?

Thanks!

All those things are in the CD. What you will not find in the CD are systems not made by MB such as transmissions, convertible tops, turbochargers, et, al.

Can someone please tell me where I can buy the Mercedes CD for a 1997 E320? Thanks for your help.

There is no CD for your car. Mercedes now operates what I understand is the WIS web site where all tech data is available by subscription. You need to get with someone smarter than I to learn about it.

Ratcliff,
Stu Ritter has signed on to come to Star Tech, since you are in Winston, you NEED to come to this event as it is in Raleigh. If any questions, let me know. I also have a 124 and am curious about the book.

Unless something has changed since day before yesterday, Stu is not coming. His house swap in France just came through. He expects to be in France for 2 weeks, including the dates for Star Tech. We all feel really sorry for him.

I think the cd I have has several pages devoted to the Cabrio top....

I stand corrected. Section 77 of the 124 CD has information on the soft top. The information seems to be all about the cloth, glass and switches.
