Hi - my 1990 300E has a persistent oil leak that neither I nor my dealer have been able to identify and fix. Although I have little faith in the dealer's efforts (details available) I still cannot figure out where the oil is coming from. Head gasket and valve cover gaskets, rear and front main seals have been replaced within the last six months. Drips form on a bolt on the bottom of the tranny when at rest, and leave a spot about as big as a silver dollar overnight. I would like to fix it, and wonder if anyone has had a similar expereince and would be willing to share their solution.

Also, I (still) need a reliable MB qualified garage to have work done. I live in Maine, but travel quite often in the NE and would be interested in positive expereinces anywhere north of the NY Metropolitan area. Thank you for any replies.

for what it's worth, I've had good experience with Doug's Foreign Car Service on 501 Center Ave, Mamaroneck, NY (914-698-3100). It's five minutes from I-95, and the commuter railroad to NYC is within walking distance.

Doug, Ron and Andy each have 30 years+ experience working on MB and BMW. It's an "open" shop, so you won't have the frustrating experience of interfacing with a "service writer." You talk directly with one of those three.

I don't know how helpful that is, with you way up in Maine. You may want to start a thread that lets members know you're looking for someone more proximate.

Skip - thank you. My sister lives just over the line in CT, so this is a good lead. I did start a thread about the garage search on two different boards here, and got no replies at all. Thanks for yours. Best,

Since you said "Drips form on a bolt on the bottom of the tranny when at rest, and leave a spot about as big as a silver dollar", is the oil from the transmission?

Adamson - Thanks for your reply. The short answer is no. I've examined the oil close up after moving the car, and it is engine oil. Double checked by monitoring tranny oil level. No change detected.

How long since you have changed the oil? When I remove the filter it runs down and drips off the transmission. Also the oil pressure sending unit is above that area. Both are closer to the driver side.

badali - Thanks fro your reply. This seems to happen at all times. I did first notice it when changing the oil, but the drip remained after a couple of weeks.
