On my 1990 300E, the SRS light comes on occasionally (once a week or so) after about one minute of driving, stays on for a few seconds, then goes off, and does not come on again. It only happens, so far, when the car is just starting out after sitting all night. Once it happened for a few seconds in the middle of the trip, then went off. That never happened again. Any ideas on why this happens and/or possible solutions would be welcome. Thank you.

And everyone has had their seatbelts securely fastened when these events took place, right?

Robert - Yes. I was the only one in the car each time, and the seatbelt was fastened before moving out.

Did you ever get this resolved? How many miles on the car? The brushes in the steering wheel wear down and require replacement. There are two and they are about $3 each. Usually people replace the ring at the same time.

Bobby - yes. The dealer took out the old one, which appreared to be corroded on the contacts. I asked them to clean it up and reinstall, since they could find no other fault with it. This procedure has apparently solved the problem. I've gone about 1500 miles without a recurrence. BTW, I was told that OVPs made in Austria are usually the ones that go bad. Mine happened to be German made. Thanks for your help and interest.

Does the srs light automatically goes off permanently after the problem is solved or does it need to be reset by the dealer's mechanic?

What is the specific name of these replaceable brushes? I cannot seem to find them anywhere. Thanks!
